Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Slovenia Convene in Kyiv
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha hosted Tanja Fajon, Slovenia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, in Kyiv for high-level talks addressing critical issues. The discussions focused on:
- Strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities

- Humanitarian mine clearance efforts
- Enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two nations
Despite ongoing Russian missile attacks targeting Kyiv, Sybiha emphasized the significance and symbolism of Slovenia’s ministerial visit.
“I appreciate your courage and solidarity,”he remarked. He further highlighted that ensuring Ukraine’s security is not only a national priority but also vital for the stability of Europe as a whole.
“We share the conviction that Russia must be compelled to seek peace through intensified pressure,”Sybiha added.
Military Aid and Humanitarian Assistance
The talks also covered Slovenia’s military support to Ukraine, including the delivery of 15 military aid packages and a $100 million contribution to the PURL initiative. Slovenia’s involvement in the Czech-led artillery initiative further demonstrates its active commitment to backing Ukraine’s defense efforts.
On the humanitarian front, representatives discussed projects supported by Slovenia’s governmental ITF fund. This fund is involved in procuring equipment for Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, training specialists, and providing comprehensive rehabilitation for those affected by the conflict. Slovenia is also aiding reconstruction work in the Khmelnytskyi, Zhytomyr regions, and Kharkiv.
The meeting confirmed plans for the upcoming 'Ukraine – Southeast Europe' summit scheduled for May 2027 in Slovenia. Sybiha referenced the Slovenian Prime Minister’s statement at the Bled Strategic Forum, emphasizing,
“EU enlargement is not a favor to candidate countries but a strategic choice for Europe’s future.”
