Coordinating the Effort: The Ministry of Social Policy’s Role
The Ministry of Social Policy is continuing its coordination with local communities under a pilot program that purchases private homes in villages and transfers them free of charge to internally displaced persons (IDPs). Deputy Minister Tetiana Kiriienko visited Chernivtsi region on a working trip, where she met with officials from the regional military administration (OVA) to discuss the project’s implementation.
In the Verenchanka community, Kiriienko inspected a house intended for purchase using funds from a state subvention for a large IDP family. She also visited the Chernivtsi Regional Center for Social and Psychological Assistance, where displaced individuals receive social support and can access shelter services. Over 71,600 IDPs are registered in the region.

Assistance for the Internally Displaced
The government’s IDP support strategy prioritizes the following:
- housing provision;
- creating inclusive residential spaces;
- integrating displaced people into communities;
- supporting IDPs with limited mobility at the Chernivtsi Regional Center.
This project is part of Ukraine’s broader response to the needs of people uprooted by the conflict. Buying homes and ensuring comfortable living conditions helps IDPs adapt and integrate into their new communities. With the significant number of displaced individuals in Chernivtsi region, this initiative is timely and vital for improving their quality of life. It also signals a shift toward durable housing solutions rather than temporary accommodation.
