Intercepting the Threat: Octopus Drones Enter Full-Scale Production
Ukraine is accelerating the serial manufacturing of Octopus interceptor drones, specifically designed to take down Iranian-made Shahed drones and other aerial targets. The Ministry of Defense has placed a contract for 8,000 of these units, which were developed by specialists within the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Having already been tested in combat, the Octopus drones have proven their effectiveness in real-world military scenarios.
Private Sector Joins the Defense Effort
Twenty-nine Ukrainian companies have been brought into the project, each receiving the necessary licenses to contribute to production. State contracts for drone deliveries have been signed with four manufacturers, and three factories are currently working on output. The acceleration of manufacturing was made possible by a government decision to allow the transfer of military technologies to private companies, opening up new opportunities for the defense sector's growth.
The Octopus drone features an automatic target re-acquisition function and can operate both day and night at low altitudes. More than a dozen additional enterprises are expected to join the project soon, which will further increase production volumes.
Ukraine's Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, stated: 'Ukraine is scaling up serial production of Octopus interceptor drones.'
