Targeting Occupiers' Key Supply Routes
Ukraine is systematically striking Russian logistics infrastructure near the Kerch Strait in an effort to cut off occupied Crimea. Recent attacks have hit Port Kavkaz in Krasnodar Krai and the TPP-Terminal-1 oil depot in occupied Kerch. Port Kavkaz serves as a critical hub for transporting fuel into Crimea. Geolocation data confirms that the strikes triggered a massive fire, destroying at least three ferries.
The Kerch oil depot, which handles fuel oil, liquefied gas, and other petroleum products, sits close to the Kerch Bridge. Following the attacks, the occupation authorities in Crimea imposed restrictions on fuel sales to non-state organizations. Ferry operations in Krasnodar Krai were also temporarily suspended, further disrupting supply lines. According to Russian military bloggers, only seven ferries remain operational on the Kerch Strait route.
Strategy to Isolate Crimea
In addition to maritime strikes, Ukraine is intensifying attacks on the land corridor to Crimea through occupied parts of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions. Ukrainian forces are targeting railway bridges, fuel depots, transport hubs, and command posts. On the night of June 21, explosions were reported across multiple areas of occupied Crimea, temporarily halting traffic on the Kerch Bridge. A large fire was also observed near Kerch.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed strikes on railway bridges near Chongar and Rozdolne. Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) note that even partial damage to the ferry fleet could create severe supply challenges for the occupation forces. Experts say this strategy aims to gradually deny Russia the ability to use Crimea as a key military staging ground for operations against Ukraine.
These logistics strikes underscore Ukraine's intent to isolate Crimea and reduce the occupiers' military capacity. Damaging critical transport nodes in the region could significantly hinder the flow of resources to Russian troops, ultimately affecting their combat effectiveness. As such, these actions may represent a pivotal step in the Ukrainian armed forces' strategic planning for the near term.
