Milestone Reached in Ukraine’s Demining Efforts
Ukraine’s mine action operators have completed the first 100 contracts under the state-run Humanitarian Demining program, reclaiming 16,400 hectares of agricultural land for safe use. The total cost of these operations exceeded 966 million Ukrainian hryvnias. This initiative is a key part of broader efforts to restore war-affected farming regions and boost food security.
Regional Breakdown of Demining Results
The most significant progress was made in Kharkiv Oblast, where 49 contracts were fulfilled, clearing 11,500 hectares. In Kyiv Oblast, 2,400 hectares were returned to agricultural use, followed by 2,100 hectares in Mykolaiv Oblast and 368 hectares in Kherson Oblast. Overall, the program has cleared 16,400 hectares of farmland at a cost of over 966 million hryvnias.
For 2026, an additional 35 contracts are planned to clear another 5,700 hectares. The state budget has allocated 1.7 billion hryvnias to continue this work. Farmers and landowners can apply for participation through the State Agrarian Register or local government offices.
