Meeting with EIB Vice President
Ukraine’s Finance Minister, Serhiy Marchenko, held a meeting in Kyiv with Karl Nehammer, Vice President of the European Investment Bank. The discussions centered on the EIB’s project portfolio in Ukraine for 2026-2027. Valued at approximately €600 million, this portfolio focuses on rebuilding damaged energy infrastructure ahead of the next heating season.
EIB Project Portfolio in Ukraine
The EIB currently manages 27 active projects in Ukraine, with a combined worth of €4.7 billion. These initiatives span several sectors:
- transport
- energy efficiency
- restoration of social and critical infrastructure
By the end of 2025, Ukraine had drawn down nearly €145 million from the EIB, and five agreements totaling €390.5 million were signed. Overall EIB financing for Ukraine’s public and private sectors has now reached €1.5 billion.
“We deeply value our strategic partnership with the EIB and its substantial contribution to restoring Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. Our top priority is to secure efficient funding—including grants and European Union guarantees—to accelerate the country’s reconstruction and revive the energy sector before winter arrives.”
Serhiy Marchenko
Ukraine’s collaboration with the European Investment Bank plays a crucial role in rebuilding and developing the nation’s infrastructure, especially as its energy systems face urgent repair needs. Support from international financial institutions like the EIB can significantly influence the pace and quality of recovery following conflict-related losses. Key areas of focus remain energy, transportation, and critical infrastructure, underscoring the need for a comprehensive approach to restoring the country’s economy.
In addition to the significant funding for energy restoration, the EIB is also addressing urgent housing and heating requirements in Ukraine.
