In the first half of 2025, Ukraine continues to show positive results in pig iron and steel production, improving its positions in global rankings.
According to Worldsteel, Ukraine rose from 14th to 13th place among 40 producing countries in pig iron production. The pig iron output amounted to 3.67 million tons, which is 5.82% more than in the same period last year.
The country also ranked 21st in steel production, rising from 22nd place. Although steel output decreased by 4.94%, Ukraine was still able to maintain its competitive position in the global market.
Global metallurgical production is declining
Total pig iron production worldwide decreased by 0.80% to 698.60 million tons, while steel production fell by 2.21% to 934.29 million tons. Even the industry leader, China, recorded a decline in its indicators.
Ukraine's improved positions in global metallurgy rankings demonstrate that the Ukrainian industry can operate successfully even in the challenging conditions of military actions and is capable of maintaining its production capacities.
Ukrainian metallurgy showed stable growth in pig iron and steel production during the first half of 2025, even amidst memories of the war. In this context, the country's improved positions in global rankings are an important step for the Ukrainian economy and confirmation of its resilience on the international stage.
