Ukraine's Biomethane Production Goals
By the end of 2026, Ukraine aims to generate 150 million cubic meters of biomethane. This target was unveiled during a meeting involving representatives from Ukraine's Ministries of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, alongside the European Investment Bank (EIB). The discussions also covered critical topics such as irrigation development, land reclamation, and water resource management.
Key Discussion Points
The meeting addressed several core areas:
- Advancing irrigation and drainage systems;
- Funding investment projects in land reclamation;
- Implementing the Irrigation and Drainage Strategy through 2030.
Particular emphasis was placed on launching large-scale initiatives linked to the Danube basin and upgrading water infrastructure in Ukraine's southern regions.
Taras Vysotskyi stated: 'Ukraine possesses substantial resources for biomethane production and expects to close 2026 with an output of roughly 150 million cubic meters. A realistic goal by 2030 is to scale this up to 500 million cubic meters.'
According to him, expanding the biomethane market should become a primary driver for exports to the European Union.
