Ukraine's Performance at the 2026 Olympics

The Ukrainian biathlon team secured eighth place in the mixed relay event at the 2026 Winter Olympics. The French team won the race with a time of 1:04:15.5. Italy claimed the silver medal, finishing 25.8 seconds behind, while Germany took the bronze, trailing by 1:05.3.

Team Roster and Race Breakdown

The Ukrainian relay team consisted of:

  • Dmytro Pidruchnyi
  • Vitalii Mandzyn
  • Olena Horodna
  • Oleksandra Merkushyna

Dmytro Pidruchnyi required four spare rounds across two shooting stages, handing off the relay in 11th position. Vitalii Mandzyn then made a strong push on his first loop, moving the team up to eighth place and passing the baton in sixth. Olena Horodna used just one spare round over her two legs, maintaining the team's position in seventh. On the final leg, Oleksandra Merkushyna needed two extra shots, which affected the team's final standing.

Mistakes by the Czech and Latvian teams ultimately allowed the Ukrainian quartet to climb into eighth place, finishing with a total time deficit of 2:36.6. The mixed relay is a demanding event that tests both speed and precision under pressure.

This eighth-place finish at the 2026 Games highlights the Ukrainian team's potential for future growth. Despite some shooting errors, strong individual performances from athletes like Vitalii Mandzyn and Olena Horodna indicate room for improvement in upcoming competitions. Continued success on the international stage will provide valuable experience and build confidence for the Ukrainian biathletes.
