Return of the Order of the White Eagle
Ukraine has sent back the Order of the White Eagle to Poland’s president, explaining that the decoration, awarded in 2023, was meant for the Ukrainian people and its military. Poland’s leader described the Order of the White Eagle as the ultimate expression of trust from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The Ukrainian side indicated it would not object if the order were to remain in the possession of figures such as Catherine II, Benito Mussolini, and Gerhard Schröder.
In handing back the award, Ukraine stressed its gratitude to the Polish people for their support and partnership, which it described as vital in the fight for freedom from Russia.
“Ukraine is thankful to the Polish people for their backing and cooperation, which play a major role in the struggle for our and your independence from Russia,” a Ukrainian official stated.

“Ukraine will keep defending itself in this war started by Russia, and we will surely achieve a dignified peace,” the Ukrainian representative said.He also expressed pride in the country’s forces: “I am proud of our people and EVERY Ukrainian soldier—millions of Ukrainian men and women who deserve absolute respect for their heroism.”
