Rapid Progress in Creating Interceptor Drones
Ukraine is fast-tracking the development of advanced interceptor drones designed specifically to neutralize rocket-propelled Shahed drones. Prototype models are currently undergoing testing, with funding already secured to support their production. During discussions with Defense Minister Oleksii Khmara and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mykhailo Drapatyi, President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the critical need to expedite all related processes.
Essential Criteria and Military Appreciation
The main priority for developers is to produce these weapons at scale. President Zelensky highlighted this point, stating:
“We are receiving regular updates on countering Russian Shahed drones and collaborating with manufacturers on the next generation of interceptor drones to defend against rocket-propelled Shaheds. Developments are underway, tests are ongoing, and we are accelerating every step.” – Volodymyr Zelensky
He stressed the necessity of having reliable defensive tools available in sufficient quantities and with proven effectiveness.
In addition, the president expressed deep gratitude to the troops stationed in the Donetsk region, specifically acknowledging:
- The 3rd Army Corps
- The 66th Mechanized Brigade
- The 125th Mechanized Brigade
- The 46th Separate Airmobile Brigade
