Ukraine Tests Emergency Readiness in Nationwide Drills
Just before the autumn-winter period, Ukraine has begun large-scale preparedness exercises under a government directive, bringing together emergency personnel, regional and local authorities, military units, and energy workers. The first day of the drills was held in the Vinnytsia region, coordinated by Deputy Energy Minister Valentyna Moskalenko, along with top officials from the State Emergency Service and the National Police. Organizers say the goal is to synchronize every responsible agency and map out response procedures ahead of time.
Focus on Safety and Preparedness
Similar drills are scheduled in most regions of the country over the coming weeks. Interior Ministry units are also taking part in the coordination; these are the teams that work daily in mobile fire groups, battle blazes, rescue residents, and maintain public order. Last winter, rescuers, police officers, and National Guard personnel kept aid stations, tent camps, and "invincibility points" running in the cities hit hardest by attacks.
The 112 emergency hotline received more than 111,000 calls last year from people left without electricity, heating, or water, and each call was routed to the relevant service. These exercises are designed to strengthen readiness for future disruptions, a task that has become especially urgent as the country prepares for the colder months.
Holding such drills is a key step in safeguarding the population and ensuring a quick, organized response to emergencies. When multiple agencies train together, they can react faster and reduce the consequences of potential accidents or natural disasters. The effort also underscores how vital cross-agency cooperation has become at a time when Ukraine faces serious challenges in both energy security and public safety.
