Abu Dhabi Hosts Negotiations

A second round of three-way peace talks, mediated by the United Arab Emirates, was held in Abu Dhabi on February 4-5. Delegations from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia successfully negotiated a prisoner exchange involving 157 individuals from each side. This marks the first such swap in five months. Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council Secretary, Rustem Umerov, confirmed the talks' conclusion, describing them as constructive and focused on establishing conditions for a lasting peace.

Focus on Humanitarian Efforts

Beyond the humanitarian track, the delegations discussed methods for implementing a ceasefire and mechanisms for monitoring a full cessation of hostilities. The participants paused for consultations with their national leadership but agreed to resume the trilateral format in the coming weeks. These talks underscore the international community's ongoing efforts to mediate the conflict, with prisoner exchanges often serving as a crucial confidence-building measure.

Rustem Umerov expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for his leadership in advancing efforts to end the war.

The agreement to exchange prisoners could become a significant step toward rebuilding trust between the parties and creating a foundation for future negotiations on broader aspects of a peaceful settlement. The planned resumption of talks in the coming weeks indicates a continued commitment to dialogue and a search for compromise in a highly complex situation, highlighting the critical role of humanitarian initiatives within the peace process.
