High-Level Political Consultations Between Kyiv and Brussels

Senior officials from Ukraine and the European Union convened for political consultations, with Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Yevhen Perebyinis and European External Action Service Deputy Secretary General Olof Skoog leading the discussions. The meeting focused on the current security situation in Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing aggression and the diplomatic efforts required to achieve a just and lasting peace.

Key Topics on the Agenda

A major point of discussion was the adoption of the EU’s 21st sanctions package, aimed at countering aggression. The talks also covered Ukraine’s accession process to the European Union. Perebyinis reiterated Ukraine’s strategic objective of full EU membership, stressing that negotiations should advance based on merit and involve the opening of all negotiating clusters.

Additionally, the participants addressed coordination between Ukraine and the EU with partner nations in several regions:

  • Africa
  • The Middle East
  • Asia
  • Latin America

The Ukrainian side emphasized the need to counter Russian disinformation and strengthen global food security. The two sides also agreed on a schedule for high-level joint events within the Ukraine-EU framework, including EU participation in celebrations for Ukrainian Statehood Day and Ukraine’s Independence Day.

These consultations underscore Ukraine’s intensified diplomatic push for European integration and deeper partnership with the EU. The discussions on security, sanctions, and international coordination highlight the strategic importance of cooperation between Kyiv and Brussels—especially critical as Ukraine continues to face Russian aggression. EU support remains vital for Ukraine’s pursuit of stability and long-term development.

As the EU and Ukraine strengthen their ties through ongoing discussions, the bloc is also taking significant steps to enhance its security measures. Recently, the European Union has moved towards implementing a ban on the entry of Russian military personnel into its territories. This decision reflects the EU's commitment to countering Russian aggression and ensuring regional stability.
