Phone Talks Between Ukrainian and Moldovan Diplomats
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha spoke by phone with Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihail Popșoi. Their conversation focused on key bilateral issues, including the joint path of Ukraine and Moldova toward European Union membership, as well as the security situation in the Black Sea amid ongoing Russian aggression.
Sybiha congratulated Popșoi on his reappointment to the post. The main topic was the threats posed by Russian attacks, which affect both regional and global security.
“We discussed our bilateral agenda, our next steps toward EU accession, and stressed the importance of urgently opening all negotiation clusters,” Sybiha stated.
Black Sea Security Concerns
Special attention was given to the security environment in the Black Sea waters. Sybiha emphasized that
“Russia’s ongoing attacks on civilian vessels and Ukraine’s port infrastructure directly threaten freedom of navigation in the Black Sea. Their consequences extend far beyond Ukraine, impacting regional and global food security.”The officials also addressed shelling of civilian infrastructure caused by Russian actions.
Both sides agreed to continue joint efforts with international partners to strengthen the resilience of alternative logistics routes and grain exports, which is a critical issue given current challenges. Sybiha also invited Popșoi to make an official visit to Ukraine, underscoring the two countries’ intent to deepen cooperation across various fields.
This dialogue highlights the importance of collaboration between Ukraine and Moldova in the face of escalating Russian threats, particularly regarding Black Sea security and their shared goal of European integration. Their cooperation in security and economic matters could bolster their standing on the international stage and help address the urgent challenges they face.
