Meeting with UN World Food Programme Representatives
Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister, Maryana Betsa, met with the acting Executive Director of the UN World Food Programme (WFP), Carl Skau, during his working visit to the country. Their discussions centered on collaborative efforts within the 'Grain from Ukraine' and 'Food from Ukraine' initiatives, as well as First Lady Olena Zelenska's project to reform the national school meal system. These programs are critical components of Ukraine's strategy to address food security challenges exacerbated by the ongoing war.
The parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their partnership to mitigate the humanitarian crisis caused by Russia's armed aggression. The WFP has mobilized over $1.8 billion for humanitarian aid, demining, and village support, representing a vital contribution to Ukraine's resilience under current conditions.
We particularly value the WFP's efforts to provide life-saving support to Ukrainian citizens in the most affected frontline areas of our state. I am convinced that during your trip to the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, you saw firsthand the critical importance of ensuring the WFP's continued, uninterrupted operations in our country.
