Ongoing Talks on Bilateral Agreement with Poland
The Ukrainian Ministry of Reconstruction, Infrastructure, and Transport is engaged in discussions with Polish authorities to establish a framework allowing Ukrainian border guards to operate on Polish soil. The negotiations took place at the 'Yahodyn – Dorohusk' checkpoint, involving representatives from various Polish agencies, including regional governors, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Finance, as well as customs and border services.
This initiative to relocate checkpoints into Poland has emerged amid increased Russian strikes near the Polish border. Notably, on September 13, drone attacks targeted a train locomotive and a truck located just a few kilometers from Poland's eastern frontier.
According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Reconstruction, Infrastructure, and Transport, finalizing this agreement will establish the essential legal framework needed to advance joint border control efforts, specifically enabling Ukrainian border and customs officers to carry out their duties within Poland.
