Energy Situation in Ukraine
As of May 6, 2026, no electricity consumption restrictions are forecasted in Ukraine. Ukrenergo has recommended that consumers limit the use of high-power electrical appliances during the evening hours from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The country is actively preparing for the upcoming winter, a priority underscored by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who emphasizes the critical importance of safeguarding vital infrastructure.
Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal has stated that the construction of a new energy system is currently underway in the country. A meeting on April 2 reviewed the implementation status of resilience plans for regions and cities, which have already been approved at the level of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. The Cabinet of Ministers has allocated UAH 12.85 billion as part of these regional resilience plans. These funds are designated for protecting critical infrastructure at 209 sites in frontline regions and the Kyiv area.
Resilience Plans and Funding
The total need for the restoration and modernization of Ukraine's energy sector over the next ten years amounts to $90.6 billion, which is 34% higher than the previous damage assessment. Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed,
“Resilience plans have been approved for every region across the country. It is crucial at the community level and at the regional authority level not to waste time. Every significant facility must be protected.”
Ukraine is therefore continuing its efforts to strengthen its energy system and ensure future energy security. Amid growing needs and challenges linked to the war and reconstruction, the government and energy companies are focusing on infrastructure modernization and enhancing the resilience of energy systems.
