Odesa Unveils Ukraine's First Underground Steel Learning Hub

Ukraine's first underground steel training hub for cadets of the Military Academy has opened in the city of Odesa. Constructed as part of the 'Steel Dream' project by the company Metinvest, the facility is designed to ensure the educational process continues uninterrupted during air raid alerts. The subterranean hub features three classrooms with a total area of approximately 100 square meters.

The hub provides all necessary conditions for comfortable study. The premises are equipped with lighting, heating, ventilation, and multimedia systems. Classroom furniture is mobile, allowing the space to be adapted for various training needs. In the event of a serious threat, the hub can simultaneously accommodate up to 150 cadets, ensuring their safety during alerts.

Hub's Extended Capabilities

In addition to the main classrooms, the hub also contains a restroom and auxiliary rooms with bunk beds that can sleep up to 70 people. The steel module is fully autonomous and can be connected to the main building via special steel passageways.

This project was implemented with the involvement of Rinat Akhmetov's company Metinvest under the 'Steel Front' initiative. The company already has experience in building underground structures, having constructed two frontline field hospitals. The first hospital has already saved over 6,000 military personnel, while construction of the second, built to NATO Role 2 standards, was completed last year. Metinvest has also developed the design for a civilian steel bunker called 'Citadel,' the first of which was erected in Borodianka.

The opening of the underground training hub in Odesa will be a crucial step in safeguarding the educational process for Military Academy cadets amid contemporary challenges.

Amidst the ongoing military aggression and challenges facing Ukraine, the creation of such a training hub is a vital step in supporting the educational process for military personnel. These underground structures provide not only safety but also the ability to continue studies under unstable conditions. This development is particularly significant for a nation under constant threat, where securing education and training infrastructure is paramount. It may positively impact cadet preparation, as they gain the opportunity to learn without distraction from external threats.
