Oil Flow Resumes Through Ukraine's Druzhba Pipeline, Slovak Supply Set for April 23

Постачання нафти через український маршрут відновлено, а постачання до Словаччини заплановане на 23 квітня.

Druzhba Pipeline Operations Restart

Ukraine has begun pumping oil into the Druzhba pipeline following repairs to a damaged section. The resumption of oil deliveries to Slovakia is anticipated on the morning of April 23.

The process of filling the pipeline and raising pressure commenced on the Ukrainian side. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the completion of repairs on April 21, after the section was damaged by a Russian strike. That same day, Ukraine received a formal request from the European Union to resume transit via the Druzhba pipeline.

According to Ukrtransnafta, the state-owned operator, the filling and pressurization process began this morning on the Ukrainian section of the pipeline from Belarus, as confirmed by spokesman Denys Sakov. Previous reports indicated Ukraine planned to restart the transport of Russian oil via the Druzhba pipeline in the afternoon of April 22.

Significance of the Pipeline's Return to Service

Restoring operations on the Druzhba pipeline is a crucial step for ensuring stable oil supplies to Europe, particularly for Slovakia. This development highlights Ukraine's efforts to repair critical infrastructure damaged by the war and underscores ongoing energy security cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union. The Druzhba pipeline is a major conduit for Russian oil to reach several Central European nations.

The resumption of oil flow through the Druzhba pipeline not only marks a significant milestone for energy supplies to Slovakia but also aligns with Ukraine's recent agreement to facilitate transit of Russian oil. This move comes in light of the European Union's support, as detailed in a secured EU loan aimed at bolstering Ukraine's energy infrastructure amidst ongoing challenges.
