Ukrainian Team's Mission to the Gulf

A Ukrainian delegation, including military personnel and National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, is en route to the Gulf region. This deployment occurs as tensions escalate, with the Iranian regime having blocked the Strait of Hormuz—a critical global artery for oil and gas shipments. This marks the third professional team Ukraine has sent to the Middle East, where they will operate across several countries in the area.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated the mission's goal is to aid in protecting lives and stabilizing the region.

"Our team, including military experts and Rustem Umerov, is now heading to the Gulf region, where our personnel can assist in safeguarding lives and promoting stability," he said. "We see the current challenges posed by strikes from Iran and the potential for a protracted conflict. The Iranian regime has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz, a primary route for global oil and gas supplies. This represents significant destabilization."

Zelenskyy further emphasized that Ukraine possesses the world's most extensive experience in countering attack drones.

"Without our expertise, both the Gulf region and the broader Middle East, along with partners in Europe and America, will find it very difficult to build a strong defense," he added. "We are ready to help those who are helping us, who are helping Ukraine."
Ukraine's hard-won knowledge from over two years of full-scale war against Russian drone and missile attacks is now a valuable strategic asset.

Rustem Umerov, for his part, will work with Ukrainian military, intelligence, defense, and foreign affairs officials to prepare specific agreements. "Ukraine is a reliable security donor; this is not only a security matter for us but also an economic prospect," Umerov noted. "It involves protection for Ukraine, cooperation with partners, and development for Ukrainian industries. Everything Ukrainians have learned for their own defense can serve as a global foundation for security—a global basis for protected life."

Thus, the Ukrainian team is engaged in a critical mission aimed at stabilizing the Gulf region and assisting partners in confronting security threats.

The Mission's Significance for Global Security

This initiative underscores Ukraine's active role on the international stage, particularly in matters of global security. Supporting partners in the Middle East, especially amid heightened conflict with Iran, could significantly impact regional stability. Given the Strait of Hormuz's strategic importance for worldwide energy supplies, Ukraine's involvement in these efforts may prove crucial for ensuring security both regionally and on a global scale.
