Liquefied Natural Gas Delivery to Ukraine

For the first time, Ukraine will receive a shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) via the Klaipėda terminal in Lithuania. The state-owned company Naftogaz, in cooperation with Ignitis Group, will ensure the delivery of 90 million cubic meters of gas by the end of March this year. This move represents a significant step in Ukraine's strategy to diversify its energy sources and reduce reliance on a single supplier.

Previous Deliveries and New Avenues

Ukraine has previously imported LNG through terminals in Germany and Poland. The initial phase of supply came via the Deutsche ReGas LNG terminal in the Baltic Sea, Germany. Additionally, Ukraine received a shipment of nearly 100 million cubic meters of American LNG through the Świnoujście terminal in Poland.

Securing LNG through Lithuania opens new avenues for Ukraine to bolster its energy security and lessen dependence on traditional suppliers. This development is part of a broader European effort to support Ukraine's energy resilience amidst ongoing regional instability.

This step forms a key part of Ukraine's strategy to achieve energy independence and strengthen cooperation with European partners. Increasing LNG imports from diverse sources allows Ukraine to mitigate risks associated with Russian energy resources and adapt to new conditions on global energy markets. Opening new gas supply routes may also positively impact the stability of energy prices within the country.
