Ukraine provided the world with 98 million tons of grain: how the maritime corridor operates under attacks

Україна постачає 98 мільйонів тонн зерна: як функціонує морський коридор в умовах загроз.

Ensuring Ukraine's Food Security

Ukraine continues to ensure global food security through the maritime corridor, despite Russian attacks. Measures to protect port infrastructure were discussed at a meeting in Odesa, with Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba participating. Since the corridor began operations, over 162 million tons of cargo have been processed, of which 98 million tons is grain. This volume of grain highlights Ukraine's importance as one of the key food suppliers in the world.

Effectiveness of the Maritime Corridor

Nearly 7 thousand vessels have passed through the corridor, confirming the effective operation of the maritime route under challenging security conditions. The geography of supplies covers 55 countries, indicating the global significance of the Ukrainian agricultural sector. Oleksii Kuleba emphasized that ensuring the safety of Ukrainian ports is critically important not only for the national economy but also for the survival of entire regions of the world.

Among the measures discussed at the meeting were issues of physical security, such as:

  • the establishment of new shelters directly in the ports;
  • military escort with close cooperation with the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
  • modernization of critical facilities to ensure energy independence.

These steps aim not only to support the Ukrainian economy but also to ensure the stability of food supplies at the global level, which is becoming increasingly relevant in the face of modern challenges.

Ensuring the security of the maritime corridor is strategically important for Ukraine, as the country continues to play a key role in the global agricultural market. Amid growing threats from Russia, active measures to modernize and protect port infrastructure are critically necessary. This not only increases the chances of uninterrupted supplies but also strengthens Ukraine's position as a reliable partner in food security for countries around the world.
