World Ukrainian Summit 2026

Held in Bern, Switzerland, the World Ukrainian Summit 2026 brought together over 300 participants from nearly 50 countries. Organized by the Ukrainian World Congress, the event featured a keynote address from Ilona Havronska, Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine for European Integration. She underscored the critical need to maintain strong ties with Ukrainians living abroad, framing the diaspora not just as a link to the past, but as an essential pillar of Ukraine's future development.

'Ukraine needs weapons and financial resources. But it also needs knowledge, professional expertise, innovation, international connections, civic leadership, and trust—assets that Ukrainians around the world have cultivated for decades. That is why the global Ukrainian community is not merely a chapter of our history, but an inseparable part of Ukraine's future.' Ilona Havronska

Havronska further emphasized that Ukrainians abroad are co-creators of the country's destiny. 'Today, millions of our citizens live in different countries worldwide, and the state's task is to maintain its connection with them,' she added. The summit served as a vital platform for discussing how the Ukrainian diaspora can more effectively engage with and contribute to the homeland.

The Strategic Value of Diaspora Relations

Preserving and deepening ties with the Ukrainian diaspora is crucial for national progress, especially amid current challenges. The global community offers not only financial support but also critical innovation and professional know-how essential for Ukraine's recovery and growth. This summit highlights the importance of integrating Ukrainians from all corners of the world into the processes that shape the country's future.

As the Ukrainian diaspora plays a pivotal role in shaping the nation's future, it becomes increasingly important to address the needs of local communities that can facilitate the return of displaced individuals.
