Ukraine has sentenced chess player Karyakin to nine years in prison in absentia

According to the materials of the Security Service of Ukraine, Sergey Karyakin has been sentenced to nine years in prison in absentia. He is accused of financing Russian occupiers, supporting the illegal annexation of Crimea, and interfering in the international audience in favor of the Russian Federation.


The Chernivtsi court was convinced by the evidence presented by the Security Service regarding the former chess player, who represented Russia after changing his citizenship from Ukrainian to Russian. Karyakin actively promoted the actions of the occupiers, raising funds for the Russian army through a Telegram channel and financially supporting the military.



The court ruling was made in the case of the traitor chess player Sergey Karyakin, who was sentenced to nine years in prison for financing Russian occupiers and promoting the occupation. The evidence provided by the Security Service convinced the court of the defendant's guilt.
