Ukraine's Proposal to End Attacks on Vital Infrastructure
Ukraine has called on its international allies to help negotiate a pact with Russia aimed at stopping attacks on essential infrastructure. President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the necessity of safeguarding energy systems, food supplies, logistics hubs, and other crucial facilities that sustain civilian life. Kyiv is willing to implement reciprocal restrictions if Moscow guarantees compliance with such an agreement.
President Zelensky highlighted that Russian forces frequently target energy facilities, port infrastructure, supply chains, and storage sites for food and pharmaceuticals. However, he expressed skepticism about Russia's commitment to honoring any such deal.
“If our partners can ensure Russia genuinely intends to refrain from striking our electricity grid, other energy assets, critical infrastructure, and food transport routes, then naturally we are prepared to reciprocate by halting our attacks,”Zelensky stated.
Long-Term Commitment and Global Backing
Zelensky stressed that any agreement must be durable and reliable, not just a temporary easing of hostilities. Ending strikes on key infrastructure could serve as an initial step toward reducing tensions in the conflict. U.S. President Donald Trump also mentioned that Ukraine and Russia had reached a mutual understanding to cease attacks on energy infrastructure. According to him, Ukraine agreed to avoid targeting Russian energy sites, while Russia would observe the same limitations.
