Ukraine launches grants for prosthesis manufacturers
In Ukraine, there is an ongoing issue with the localization of prosthesis production, as most components are imported from other countries. The government plans to launch a grant program to support domestic manufacturers in 2026. The situation with the localization of complex prosthesis production remains critical, notes Vitaliy Muzychenko.
Currently, high-tech prosthetics in Ukraine are primarily filled by foreign manufacturers. The largest suppliers of components are:
- Germany
- Iceland
- United Kingdom
- USA
According to experts, in high-functional prosthetics, over 95% of products are made by import manufacturers. At the same time, the share of Ukrainian components in simpler models is about 10-15%.
Grant Program Directions
The grant program, which will start in 2026, is implemented jointly with the Ministry of Digital Transformation. Currently, a certain framework has already been prepared and agreed upon to have the prerequisites for launching such a grant program. The directions of the grant program include:
- support for design solutions
- development of viable prototypes
- scaling existing products
As Vitaliy Muzychenko notes, for lower limbs, the production of feet in Ukraine already has certain volumes, but for upper limbs, the situation is somewhat better due to the development of several domestic manufacturers. These efforts are aimed at reducing dependence on imports and developing domestic production.
The launch of the grant program could be an important step in the development of the Ukrainian prosthetics industry, which, in turn, will reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and increase the competitiveness of domestic manufacturers. The successful implementation of the program could also positively affect the availability of prosthetics for Ukrainians in need of such medical products and contribute to the growth of innovation in this field.
