Ukrainian strike on Russian gas facilities: a retaliatory action to the shelling
Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed in his evening address that Ukrainian forces attacked Russian gas industry facilities located in the Orenburg region. The distance from the Ukrainian border to the target was more than one and a half thousand kilometers. According to the president, this step was a symmetrical response to the aggression from the Russian Federation.
“Today we used our long-range sanctions - retaliatory measures for Russian strikes on our territory. In particular, the Orenburg region was affected: gas industry facilities located more than 1500 km from Ukraine. We warned that we would act in kind,” Zelensky stated.
The president reminded that Kyiv had previously initiated a ceasefire, but after three days of relative calm, Russia resumed attacks using Shaheds and aerial bombs. In light of the escalation of the conflict, a meeting of European national security advisors was held with representatives from 13 countries and the NATO Secretary General's office. The meeting discussed the formation of an anti-missile coalition to strengthen regional security.
Kherson under shelling and international reaction
Zelensky also drew attention to the situation in Kherson, where, according to him, Russian military forces organized a “safari” against the civilian population. The president called for increased protection of the city by increasing the number of interceptors, electronic warfare means, and crews. He noted that the situation remains extremely difficult in the occupied part of Kherson region, especially in Oleshky and nearby villages, where the evacuation of residents is fraught with great difficulties.
This attack demonstrates Ukraine’s growing capabilities to conduct operations at great distances, which could change the strategic landscape in the region. At the same time, the escalation of hostilities and the deterioration of the situation near Kherson indicate a high level of tension between the parties. The meeting of European national security advisors emphasizes the solidarity of the international community with Ukraine in its desire to defend its sovereignty. For Kyiv, it is critically important to maintain a coalition of allies to enhance its defense potential against Russia's actions.
As Kyiv continues to conduct long-range operations, the situation in Kherson also requires attention. Against the backdrop of escalating conflict, there was an attack on a minibus, resulting in civilian casualties. This highlights the growing tensions in the region and the need for enhanced security measures to protect the civilian population.
