Ukraine increases gas imports to 6 billion cubic meters due to Russian attacks: 600 million cubic meters will come from the USA

Україна нарощує обсяги імпорту газу до 6 мільярдів кубометрів у відповідь на агресію з боку Росії: США нададуть 600 мільйонів кубометрів.

Increase in natural gas imports in Ukraine

Ukraine is increasing its natural gas imports due to intense attacks from Russia. In 2025, the import volume will amount to nearly 6 billion cubic meters, of which 600 million cubic meters will be received in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the USA. This decision has become necessary in the context of the growing aggression from the enemy, which has negatively affected the country's energy infrastructure.

Impact of attacks on energy infrastructure

According to reports, in 2025, the 'Naftogaz' Group facilities underwent 24 combined attacks. The enemy launched over 2000 rockets and drones at 'Naftogaz' facilities, significantly complicating the energy supply for the country. One facility was attacked by 64 'Shaheds' in the last two days. In such conditions, natural gas imports are becoming critically important. As noted by Serhiy Fedorenko,

'considering the intensity of strikes on internal infrastructure, it would be difficult without natural gas imports'
.

Additionally, in the first quarter of 2026, another 300 million cubic meters of gas has been contracted, indicating the continuation of a strategic policy for energy resource imports. Serhiy Fedorenko also emphasized that

'we have conducted extensive work on the restoration of the Kryvorizh TPP, and the city has entered the heating season on schedule and guaranteed'
. This indicates efforts to stabilize the energy situation in Ukraine despite the challenges the country faces.

The increase in natural gas imports is a response to the escalation of military actions by Russia, which significantly affect Ukraine's energy security. Supporting the country's energy independence through the import of liquefied natural gas from the USA can become an important step in ensuring the stability of energy supplies, especially relevant in wartime conditions. At the same time, the restoration and modernization of energy infrastructure, as in the case of the Kryvorizh TPP, indicates that Ukraine continues to work on strengthening its energy capabilities despite external threats.
