Ukraine won its first gold at the World Championships 2025: Luzan and Fedoriv triumphed in canoeing

At the 2025 World Championships in canoeing, Ukraine won its first gold medal. Lyudmyla Luzan and Iryna Fedoriv won in the women’s canoe double event over a distance of 500 meters. The Ukrainian athletes led the race from start to finish, completing the distance in a time of 1:53.30 minutes.

Before competing in the final, Luzan and Fedoriv participated in the qualifying rounds and semifinals. In the semifinals, they achieved the best result, surpassing the Canadian canoeists by 1.06 seconds

The second place was taken by the pair from Canada, and the representatives from Spain completed the list of prize winners. Luzan's next start will be in the canoe double event over 200 meters, as well as in the canoe single event over 500 meters.

At this championship, Ukraine also performed well in the overall medal standings. After the European Youth Olympic Festival, our country ranked 10th with 5 golds, 8 silvers, and 10 bronzes, making it the second most successful performance in the festival's history.

Most medals at the festival were won by our athletes in judo. Medals were also earned in swimming, athletics, taekwondo, shooting, gymnastics, and table tennis. At the same time, the World Summer Universiade concluded in Germany, where the Ukrainian team also won bronze.
