From April 20 to 26, the European Wrestling Championships took place in Tirana, Albania. Ukraine’s Greco-Roman wrestlers secured three bronze medals during the event. After the first three days of competition, the Ukrainian team ranked fifth in the overall standings.

Athletes Who Stepped onto the Podium

  • Yaroslav Filchakov earned bronze in the under-87 kg weight class. Notably, he previously won silver at the 2023 European Championships and returned to the podium with another bronze in 2024. He has also claimed third place twice at the World Championships.

  • Mykhailo Vyshnyvetskyi took bronze in the over-130 kg category. This marks his first medal at a senior European Championship. Earlier in his career, he achieved victories and podium finishes at junior and youth World and European Championships.

  • Vladlen Kozliuk placed third in the 97 kg weight class, marking his second career bronze at the European Championships. His achievements also include medals at the European Under-23 Championships and wins at both world and continental junior events.

The women’s wrestling events are scheduled for the evening of April 23, where Ukrainian athletes will compete for four gold medals.

This European Championship has been a pivotal milestone for Ukraine’s wrestlers, who continue to demonstrate high skill and competitiveness internationally. The bronze medals reflect their steady progress and preparation for future competitions, including world championships and the Olympic Games. The upcoming women’s wrestling bouts remain a key highlight, with the potential to add more honors to Ukraine’s tally.

As Ukraine's wrestlers continue to excel on the international stage, their recent performances reflect a broader trend of success. For instance, at the recent Dan Kolov Tournament, the team showcased their strength by securing an impressive 23 medals, further indicating their competitive edge as they prepare for upcoming challenges.
