Arrest of a Ukrainian in Poland
A Ukrainian named Ilya S. was arrested at the airport in Poland on suspicion of attempting to use a radio frequency jammer, which could jeopardize air traffic safety. The incident occurred on December 25, 2015, when law enforcement officers detained a young man who, according to the investigation, was trying to use the prohibited device at the airport.
Court Decision and Charges
The next day, on December 26, 2015, the Warsaw court decided to arrest Ilya S. He is a 23-year-old citizen of Ukraine and claims to reside in Canada. According to information, Ilya S. is charged under Article 13 § 1 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 212 paragraph 1 point 4 of the Aviation Act. On December 27, the prosecutor filed a motion for arrest, and the Warsaw District Court chose a preventive measure of detention for one month.
The suspect did not plead guilty to the charges, as reported by prosecutor Piotr Skiba. At the same time, a former intelligence officer noted that experts need to determine what kind of device it was and for what purpose it was used. The situation raised concerns regarding aviation transport security.
This incident highlights the importance of security checks at airports, as even attempts to use prohibited devices can have serious consequences for air traffic safety. Law enforcement agencies and experts must thoroughly investigate the circumstances of the case to understand whether there truly was a threat to aviation security, as well as take appropriate measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
