What the New Forecast Means for Ukrainian Food Prices
Consumers in Ukraine should expect food prices to increase over the coming months, according to Denys Marchuk, deputy head of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, speaking on the Dень.LIVE program. By late August, dairy products are likely to become 5–7% more expensive, while meat prices may climb by about 10% during the autumn. Bread has been rising by 2% month on month; if that pace continues, it could add roughly another 10% by the end of the year. Vegetables, despite their usual seasonal drop, could still cost 2–5% more because of higher logistics expenses.
Why Food Costs Are Going Up
According to the forecasts, the main forces behind the expected increases are expensive compound feed, energy prices, and other production expenses. In addition, Russian strikes on logistics centers and food depots have forced suppliers to take longer alternative delivery routes, which also pushes up the final price of goods.
The projected rise in food prices points to major pressure on Ukraine's agricultural sector, especially from increasing production and shipping costs. Shoppers will need to factor these higher prices into their budgets and monitor market shifts to cope with financial strain. Broader inflation and weaker consumer confidence may also follow. These increases come alongside wartime disruptions that have already made food supply more fragile.
