From October 1, Ukrainians may lose the right to legally reside in Poland. This information was published by the publication 'Khvylya' referring to inpoland.net.

President of Poland Andrzej Duda did not support the bill that proposed extending the temporary protection status for Ukrainian refugees until March 2026. Instead, he submitted his own bill to Parliament, under which social benefits and free medical services will be available only to officially employed Ukrainians in Poland.

Dorota Loboda:

the special law on assistance to Ukrainians in Poland has been in effect since 2022 and regulates their rights to residence, employment, education, and medical care. Currently, over one million Ukrainians in Poland find themselves in uncertainty regarding the preservation of their legal status.

This law applies not only to those who fled the war after February 24 but also to Ukrainians who arrived in Poland earlier. Lawyers advise submitting temporary residence documents by September 30 to ensure some legal protection.

The discussion of the bill for assistance to Ukrainians in Poland has caused uncertainty among more than a million Ukrainians who may lose their legal status in the country. The authorities have introduced a new bill that limits social benefits and medical services only to officially employed Ukrainians, which may force many to change their plans and apply for a new status by the end of September.
