Ukraine's '3000 km Across Ukraine' Initiative Issues Over 170,000 Free Rail Tickets

Ініціатива '3000 км Україною' забезпечила безкоштовними залізничними квитками понад 170 тисяч українців.

The '3000 km Across Ukraine' Program

More than 170,000 tickets have been issued under Ukraine's '3000 km Across Ukraine' program, which provides free rail travel. The total distance covered by these journeys amounts to approximately 80 million kilometers. Since the program's launch, 580,000 users have registered in the 'Ukrzaliznytsia' app, with 40,000 tickets purchased through the initiative in late December alone. This program is a key part of efforts to maintain national connectivity and support citizens' mobility during the ongoing war.

Free travel is available during off-peak periods and is focused on routes to frontline communities. Tickets can be booked via the 'Ukrzaliznytsia' app. Importantly, no additional state budget funds are used for this initiative. Since December 3, 2025, users can book up to four journeys totaling 3000 km through the app. Free tickets are available for Platskart and Coupe carriages, regional trains, and second-class Intercity+ carriages on 24 designated routes.

Popular Routes

The most popular travel routes in the program include:

  • Fastiv – Konotop
  • Odesa – Zaporizhzhia
  • Kyiv/Zhmerynka – Shostka
  • Zaporizhzhia – Lviv
  • Sumy – Rakhiv
As Yuliia Svyrydenko noted, 'This initiative allows Ukrainians to travel between frontline, central, and western regions, maintaining connections with loved ones despite the distance.'

The '3000 km Across Ukraine' program represents a significant step in ensuring citizen mobility and strengthening inter-regional bonds within the country. It demonstrates how rail connectivity can reinforce social ties during challenging times. The scheme not only provides free travel for Ukrainians but also supports the economy by encouraging passenger traffic during less busy periods. This initiative can foster domestic tourism and helps residents of remote regions stay connected with family and friends, which is vital given the wartime disruption to normal life.
