Ukrainian Unity Day Celebrated in Argentina and Japan

On January 24 and 25, 2026, Ukrainian communities in Argentina and Japan commemorated Ukrainian Unity Day by organizing 'Unity Chain' events and charity drives. These gatherings served as significant demonstrations of solidarity, highlighting the unity of the Ukrainian people both at home and across the globe. Unity Day is a national holiday in Ukraine that celebrates the historic unification of Ukrainian lands.

Events in Argentina and Japan

In Argentina, the observance took place on January 24 in Buenos Aires at Tres de Febrero Park. The event was organized by the Ukrainian Central Representation in the Argentine Republic. Participants gathered by the Taras Shevchenko monument to form a 'Unity Chain.' The gathering also featured a call for donations to fund equipment for restoring Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The presence of members of the Buenos Aires city government underscored the local support for the Ukrainian community in Argentina.

In Japan, the event was held on January 25 in Tokyo, organized by the group Stand with Ukraine Japan. Participants formed a human chain, symbolizing the unity of Ukrainians abroad. Ukrainian Ambassador Yuriy Lutovynov and other diplomats joined the action, emphasizing continued international support. Stand with Ukraine Japan has now held demonstrations in support of Ukraine for four consecutive years.

“The unity of the Ukrainian people—both within Ukraine and beyond its borders—remains a key condition of our resilience.”

Unity Day symbolizes the unification of Ukrainian territories and the proclamation of the Act of Union between the Ukrainian People's Republic (UPR) and the West Ukrainian People's Republic (WUPR). Organizers emphasized that “this action served as a reminder of the value of Ukrainian unity in the pursuit of freedom and justice. It demonstrated that our strength lies in solidarity and mutual support, in the ability to overcome challenges together and build a free future.”

Thus, the events in Argentina and Japan marked important moments for the global Ukrainian diaspora, showcasing worldwide unity and support. Amidst ongoing challenges, including the armed conflict in Ukraine, such acts of solidarity are vital for maintaining morale and keeping international attention focused on the issues facing the Ukrainian people. The unity expressed through these events underscores the importance of collective efforts in achieving peace and rebuilding the nation.
