Poland is moving to a new stage of decommissioning the free housing system for Ukrainian refugees. State temporary accommodation centers are closing, and the model of full maintenance is being replaced with partial or full payment for accommodation. As a result, most displaced persons have to independently search for housing in the rental market and cover the costs themselves. This is reported by InPoland.
The greatest resonance was caused by the fact that the new rules have spread to groups that were previously considered socially protected. This refers to Ukrainians who legally reside in Poland and have received state support.
Ukrainians in Poland lose the right to free housing
According to the new approaches, the right to free accommodation in placement centers is no longer preserved for such categories:
-
large families;
-
guardians of persons with disabilities;
-
pensioners receiving pension payments in Poland.
For some residents, co-financing will be introduced instead of full coverage of expenses.
Ukrainians in Poland will pay for accommodation
In particular, in some centers, a mandatory fee of 15 zlotys per day is foreseen. The Polish authorities explain this by the need to optimize budget expenditures and stimulate the financial independence of people with stable incomes or social benefits.
The government emphasizes that the assistance system is not being completely liquidated. It is being transformed with an emphasis on targeted support and the integration of Ukrainians into the ordinary housing and social-economic space of the country.
Let us remind you that the municipalities of Poland provide financial support to persons who find themselves in difficult life situations in the form of housing assistance (dodatek mieszkaniowy).
