Health Screening 40+ Program Launched
Starting January 1, 2023, Ukraine introduced the 'Health Screening 40+' initiative, enabling citizens aged 40 and older to undergo comprehensive preventive medical check-ups. The government provides participants with financial support of 2,000 hryvnias to cover screening costs, with each session lasting between 60 and 90 minutes. This program is part of broader efforts to improve early disease detection and reduce long-term healthcare burdens.
The screening process includes several stages:
- A physician's examination;
- Measurement of blood pressure, pulse, and body mass index;
- A questionnaire on risk factors such as smoking, alcohol use, and genetic predispositions;
- A lipid panel and glycated hemoglobin test.
Additional tests for blood electrolytes, creatinine, and albumin may be performed if indicated, to assess kidney and heart function. The screening helps identify risks for stroke, heart attack, and diabetes.
How to Participate
Applications can be submitted through the 'Diia' mobile app or at a Center for Administrative Services (CNAP). Importantly, lab results are available within 72 hours. Participants are advised to avoid brisk walking, smoking, and coffee for 30 minutes before the screening.
The allocated funds must be used by June 30, 2026, if credited before May 1, 2026. If received after that date, participants have two months to use them. Any unused funds are automatically returned to the state budget. Notably, nearly every public medical facility in the capital participates in the program, ensuring broad accessibility for citizens.
The 'Health Screening 40+' program is a key initiative aimed at boosting disease prevention among Ukraine's population. It not only offers financial assistance but also promotes early detection and treatment of illnesses, which can help ease the strain on the healthcare system.
With the program available at public healthcare facilities, citizens can easily access these services at their convenience, positively impacting overall public health.
