A Step-by-Step Guide for Ukrainians Abroad to Remotely Unblock Bank Cards

Кроки для українців за кордоном: як відновити доступ до банківських карток дистанційно.

How to Remotely Unblock Your Bank Card

Ukrainian citizens living abroad can now unblock their bank cards remotely via the internet, eliminating the need to return to Ukraine. This process takes just a few minutes and can be completed through banking apps or by contacting customer support via chat bots and internet calls. User identification requires providing personal data.

The first step is to secure an internet connection. Next, open your banking app, such as Privat24, Oschadbank, or Monobank. If using mobile data in roaming is not an option, journalist Iryna Poliakova from the publication 'Na Pensii' advises the following:

  • Find a nearby cafe, hotel, or shopping mall with free Wi-Fi;
  • Use chat bots in Viber or Telegram for the procedure;
  • Utilize free internet calls within the PrivatBank and Monobank apps.

For identification when contacting an operator, you will need to provide your full name, date of birth, passport series and number, identification code, and answer a security question. As Iryna Poliakova noted,

“This is your bridge to rescue.”
She also emphasized,
“Do not call Ukrainian numbers via roaming—your money will vanish in two minutes of waiting on the line.”
These simple steps will help Ukrainians abroad quickly and effectively resolve issues with blocked cards.

This information is crucial for the millions of Ukrainians displaced or living abroad due to the ongoing war, offering a vital financial lifeline. The ability to unblock cards remotely is a significant advantage, simplifying daily life and maintaining financial stability without the burden and cost of international travel.
