Ukrainians won 32 medals at the European Championship for boys and girls

Ukrainian weightlifters showcased true masterpieces at the European Championship in Madrid! Our athletes not only won 32 medals but also set 6 European records, which is definitely worth admiration!


Girls U17, boys U17, and girls U15 took second team places, showing impressive results in the combined event. Champions and record holders awaited prizes, among them were our bright talents:



  • «Gold»: Elena Mikhalyuk (40 kg, U 15, 125 kg).

  • «Gold»: Ekaterina Malashchuk (48 kg, U17, 169 kg in combined event, 76 kg in snatch, 93 kg in clean and jerk).

  • «Gold»: Yuri Klimkovich (79 kg U17, 139 kg in snatch).

  • «Gold»: Sergey Kotelevsky (88 kg, U17, 318 kg in combined event, 177 kg in clean and jerk).


Overall, our weightlifters won 23 «small medals» in snatch and clean and jerk. Ekaterina Malashchuk became the best athlete among girls U17, and Kira Stroganova took third place in Sinclair among girls under 15 years old.


Ukraine took 10th place in the total medal count among other countries in the general medal standings of the European Youth Olympic Festival. This was Ukraine's second most successful performance in the history of the Festivals, after the outstanding year of 2019. On the national arena, the judo team won, but medals were also awarded in swimming, athletics, taekwondo, shooting, artistic gymnastics, and table tennis.
