New Pension Payment Scam Targets Ukrainians: Cyber Police Issue Urgent Warning

Обережно! Новий шахрайський метод з виплатами пенсій намагається обманути українців: кіберполіція опублікувала термінове попередження.

Beware of Phishing Attacks

Ukraine's Cyber Police, together with the Pension Fund, have sounded the alarm over a fresh wave of phishing schemes that misuse the Fund's name and official branding. Scammers are circulating false messages about new payments, pension bonuses, and a supposed mandatory identification process for retirees. The goal is to trick people into clicking malicious links, which can lead to the theft of personal data and banking details.

How the Scammers Operate

These fraudulent messages are spreading rapidly through messaging apps and social media. They falsely promise pensioners additional payments ranging from 3,200 to 5,300 hryvnias, depending on their region and work history. Another variant pressures recipients to complete a fake identification process to avoid losing their pension. The Pension Fund of Ukraine has officially denied all such claims. In addition, a large-scale phishing campaign impersonating the Tax Service has been detected, along with a wave of attacks posing as the National Bank of Ukraine. The Cyber Police note that in every case, scammers exploit urgency—pushing people to act emotionally and click links or hand over sensitive information without thinking.

“We emphasize that such posts show clear signs of phishing and may be used to steal personal data, banking information, or access to citizens’ accounts,” the Cyber Police stated.

To stay safe, experts recommend Ukrainians follow a few simple rules:

  • Always verify information using only official government websites.
  • Never click on links from suspicious Telegram channels or unverified messages.
  • Avoid entering personal or banking details on unknown websites.
  • Watch out for emotional pressure in messages, such as tight deadlines or promises of urgent payments.

If you encounter suspicious messages or fraudulent resources, report them to the Cyber Police immediately.

These phishing schemes highlight the growing need for caution in the digital world, especially among vulnerable groups like retirees. As fraudsters become more sophisticated, citizens must stay alert and rely only on trusted sources for information about pensions and social benefits. The Cyber Police and the Pension Fund continue to work on preventing such crimes and improving protections for the public.

As the Cyber Police continue to warn about the escalating threats from scammers, it's crucial for Ukrainians to remain vigilant against various types of fraud. Recently, there has been a surge in fraudulent emails impersonating the State Tax Service, which further highlights the need for awareness regarding these deceptive tactics.
