Dunk Mania: A Fresh Format for Slam Dunk Competitions Debuts

FIBA has unveiled an innovative slam dunk competition called Dunk Mania, set to premiere during the 2026 3x3 Basketball World Cup in Warsaw. Among the participants is Ukrainian dunker Dmytro "Smoove" Kryvenko, who will represent Team Grabo. The team is captained by Polish dunker Piotr "Grabo" Grabowski and also includes Chinese dunker Chen Deng Xin.

The Dunk Mania contest unfolds across three rounds:

  • Fate Matchups
  • Air Raid
  • Holy Trinity

In the first round, Fate Matchups, a live digital randomizer determines the performance order. The second round, Air Raid, incorporates props like bicycles, ladders, and branded items. The final round, Holy Trinity, features a synchronized group dunk involving all three team members. Judges evaluate performances based on difficulty, creativity, style, and overall concept. Polish dunker Rafał "Lipek" Lipiński will serve on the judging panel.

Dunk Mania is designed as a long-term initiative within global 3x3 tournaments. The winning team from the Warsaw event earns a spot in the next edition, scheduled for Singapore in 2027.
