Yuriy Kolesnyk's Thermal Capsule

Yuriy Kolesnyk, a resident of Kryvyi Rih, has patented a thermal capsule that can warm a person without conventional heating in just 30 minutes. This invention, developed five years ago, is situated on the ground floor of his home. The capsule features a multi-chamber design with air gaps that effectively trap and retain body heat.

Kolesnyk explains that the heat from a single human body is sufficient to raise the temperature inside the capsule from 10 to 20 degrees Celsius. He notes the structure's energy-saving standard is effectively zero, as it requires only a person's presence to maintain warmth. The capsule can be constructed from various common materials, including:

  • A wardrobe or cabinet
  • A table
  • Cardboard
  • Fabric
  • Polyethylene sheeting

Self-Sufficient Insulation and Related Projects

On the second floor of his house, Kolesnyk created an insulated space over a decade ago, featuring a motion-sensitive heated floor. This area also runs on a self-sufficient power system supplied by solar panels, a wind turbine, and a bicycle-powered generator. The concept of autonomous heating has gained critical importance in Ukraine due to widespread disruptions in power and heating infrastructure caused by Russian attacks.

Another notable project in this field is the modular 'Life Capsule,' designed by Serhiy Zakharin, who also manufactures wood-processing equipment. One such capsule has already been installed by a family in the Kyiv region.

The core principle behind Yuriy Kolesnyk's thermal capsule is its multi-layered, air-gap construction, which functions similarly to a thermos. For optimal use, it is recommended to place the capsule against an interior wall and to ensure the room is regularly ventilated.

Kolesnyk's invention highlights innovative approaches to energy conservation, which are vital in the context of the unreliable heating supply many Ukrainians now face. Given the pressing need for off-grid heating solutions, such innovations could play a significant role in ensuring household comfort during warfare and energy crises. Projects like the 'Life Capsule' further indicate a growing focus on alternative and resilient technologies within the country.
