According to information from Reuters, Ukraine needs another $1-2 billion to purchase 1-2 billion cubic meters of gas in Europe. Although gas storage is filled to 80-90% of its capacity, additional fuel procurement from other countries is necessary to fully fill it, which will cost between $0.5-1 billion.
Due to reduced gas production last winter as a result of Russian strikes, some experts recommend accumulating 14 billion cubic meters before the start of the heating season. The conditions of Russian aggression make gas imports a safer alternative to storing it within Ukraine, even with the largest storage facilities in Europe. There is also an increase in supplies through Hungary and Poland, with plans to double the capacity of the gas pipeline by early 2026.
Ukraine is seeking additional funds for gas procurement before winter, despite sufficient gas storage levels. The geopolitical situation is a motivating factor for increasing imports and diversifying sources of gas supply.
