Alona’s Emigration Story
In 2021, Ukrainian national Alona moved to the Czech Republic with her husband. Her transition was marked by significant hurdles, including a language barrier, living in a dormitory plagued by frequent water and electricity outages, and taking on physically demanding factory work that often required night shifts. She noted that not speaking the local language made it difficult to communicate with coworkers, managers, and neighbors, and that understanding instructions and completing job tasks became a constant struggle.
At first, the dormitory seemed well-renovated and promising, but over time the couple faced recurring issues with water and power cuts.
“Living in a dormitory is nothing like living in an apartment,” Alona remarked.

Despite these challenges, Alona highlighted several advantages of her new home. These include:
