Ukrainian Artist Brightens Dubai School with Traditional Folk Mural
Living in Dubai, Tatiana Udovika, a Ukrainian native, transformed a wall at Cedar School with an expansive mural inspired by the traditional Petrykivka painting style. This artistic project followed her presentation to students about career choices and challenging gender stereotypes in various professions.
Originally from Dnipro, Tatiana is a rocket engineering graduate who also runs a business creating eco-friendly bags adorned with Petrykivka motifs. Impressed by her artwork, Cedar School's principal invited her to decorate an entire wall with these vibrant patterns. Tatiana’s connection to the school is personal—she is the mother of two students, Alex and Vera.
Introducing Petrykivka Art into an Educational Setting
Known for its vivid floral designs, leaves, and symbolic birds, Petrykivka painting now enriches the school environment. Tatiana reflected on this cultural link:
“Petrykivka painting is deeply tied to my roots, as I come from Dnipro, home to this world-renowned art form.”
Cedar School staff shared their appreciation for the mural:
“This wall is more than just visually stunning — it stands as a powerful symbol of our school's diversity, creativity, and generosity.”
Through Tatiana’s initiative, the school space gained not only a colorful update but also a meaningful celebration of community values, inclusivity, and respect for cultural heritage.
Such projects highlight the importance of cultural exchange and the integration of Ukrainian traditions within a global context. Tatiana's work helps promote Ukrainian culture abroad while offering students exposure to diverse artistic expressions, fostering a broader worldview. Initiatives like this contribute to building an open, tolerant community, which is a vital component of modern education.
