Publication date and time: Monday, October 12, 2026, 2:45 PM

On October 11, 2026, in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, a driver operating an Audi struck two Ukrainian women cycling between Zemin and Snyaty in Grodzisk County at approximately 7 a.m. One of the cyclists, a 20-year-old woman, died instantly, while the other, aged 27, suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital.

The 20-year-old male driver hit the cyclists even though they were following traffic laws and wore reflective gear for visibility. Breathalyzer tests confirmed the driver was sober; however, police collected blood samples to check for drug use. Emergency responders, including an air ambulance helicopter, arrived promptly at the scene.

Road Safety Concerns Raised

This incident highlights the dangers cyclists face on roads despite adhering to safety measures. Since the driver was sober, authorities are investigating other possible causes that might have contributed to the crash.

As cycling gains popularity in Poland and across Europe, such accidents fuel ongoing debates about improving road safety and upgrading infrastructure to better protect vulnerable road users like cyclists.
