Nicole Kozlova Receives Top Honor
Ukrainian footballer Nicole Kozlova has been voted Player of the Year in the Scottish Women’s Premier League. The award was determined by a majority vote from fellow players across the league. Kozlova represents both the Ukrainian women’s national team and Glasgow City, where she scored nine goals and provided five assists during the 2025/26 season. Her last match for the club took place in 2025.
Unfortunately, in March of this year, Kozlova suffered a serious injury, tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her knee during a World Cup 2027 qualifier against England while playing for Ukraine. Reflecting on the honor, she shared:
“It’s a huge privilege to win the Player of the Year award in the Scottish Women’s Premier League. The fact that it came from the votes of my fellow players makes it even more special. This season had everything for me—football at its most beautiful and its most brutal, all in one breath.”
Shifts in Ukrainian Football
Meanwhile, significant changes are unfolding in Ukrainian football. Italian coach Andrea Maldera is set to become the new head coach of the Ukrainian men’s national team. The Ukrainian Association of Football is in the final stages of finalizing an agreement with Maldera, according to insider Fabrizio Romano. Maldera will replace Serhiy Rebrov, who stepped down on April 22 after the team failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, losing 3–1 to Sweden in the playoff semifinal.
In June, Ukraine will play friendly matches against Poland and Denmark. In the fall of 2026, the team will compete in League B of the Nations League, facing opponents including:
