Ukrainian Firm Unveils Dart Rocket Designed for Balloon-Based Launch

Українська компанія представила ракету-далекобій у новому форматі, призначену для запуску з повітряних куль.

Dart Rocket Unveiled

The Ukrainian company Center of Innovative Technologies Program has introduced its new Dart rocket, engineered for deployment from stratospheric balloons. The launch occurs at altitudes ranging from 12 to 18 kilometers, utilizing a navigation system that shuts down at roughly 6 kilometers. At that point, a solid-fuel motor activates, propelling the Dart toward its target without any course adjustments. Special servos ensure precise ignition timing and maintain a stable flight path.

Technical Specifications

The Dart rocket measures 1.84 meters in length and weighs 13 kilograms. Its warhead, weighing between 3.5 and 10 kilograms, contains graphite-based penetrating elements. When these strike energy infrastructure, the graphite can disable transformers and distribution substations.

The balloons from which the rocket will be launched are not developed by Center of Innovative Technologies Program but come from a partner organization. These balloons ascend to 12–20 kilometers, emit almost no heat, and have a minimal radar signature.

In the near future, the Dart will undergo codification with Ukraine's Ministry of Defense. The developers also plan to create a ballistic missile and a surface-to-air missile based on the Dart design. Earlier this year, in February, Ukraine tested a new ballistic missile called the FP-7.

As company representatives stated, 'The balloons are no longer our development but a partner's - Center of Innovative Technologies Program.'

This rocket represents a step forward in Ukraine's development of new defense technologies, a particularly pressing need given current challenges. The company's further plans to develop additional missile types also signal efforts to strengthen the nation's military capabilities and adapt technology for modern combat requirements.

As Ukraine continues to innovate in defense technology, the recent success of the interceptor missile tests highlights the nation's commitment to enhancing its military capabilities. This advancement, alongside the introduction of the Dart rocket, illustrates a strategic response to current security challenges and a focus on developing robust defense systems.
