Youth and Ukrainian Refugees Eligible for Free Regional Trips
During July and August 2026, individuals aged 28 and under—including Ukrainian refugees—can travel at no cost between specific regions of France and Germany, provided they hold one of several qualifying regional transit passes. This offer applies exclusively to local and regional transportation networks.
Who Qualifies for the Free Travel Offer?
The promotion is open to young people up to 28 years old and Ukrainian refugees currently residing in Germany. To take advantage of the free journeys, travelers must possess one of the following regional tickets:
- Deutschlandticket
- D-Ticket JugendBW
- Pass Jeune Grand Est
- Pass Grenzenlos
Which Destinations Are Covered?
Travelers departing from Germany can head to the French region of Grand Est, while those starting in France can visit the German states of Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland. The free travel benefit covers regional transport options such as TER, RE, and RB trains, as well as buses and urban transit. However, it does not apply to high-speed trains like ICE, TGV, IC, or EC, nor to intercity routes. Additionally, the Paris metro, buses, and trams are excluded from this initiative.
For trips into Paris, a free seat reservation must be made through SNCF Connect. Ukrainians based in Germany can use the Deutschlandticket under standard terms, which costs €63 per month. This pass is valid on city and regional transport, offering young travelers added convenience.
This campaign marks a significant effort to support both young people and Ukrainian refugees in Germany by making travel more accessible and fostering cross-cultural exchange. It also helps strengthen social ties and ease adaptation for young individuals navigating new environments—a particularly relevant goal amid ongoing challenges. Furthermore, it opens up fresh opportunities to explore the cultural and historical landmarks of the participating regions.
